RJGM Commentary: Weekly Insights on Justice and Faith

RJGM Commentary 26-002 | Published: May 10, 2026

In recent days, Tennessee lawmakers approved a controversial redistricting plan that reshapes Memphis voting districts and weakens the historic influence of Black voters in West Tennessee. For many citizens, the concern extends beyond politics; it touches on moral, historical, and deeply personal dimensions. However, believers must resist the urge to succumb to fear, outrage, or hopelessness. Justice matters, and so does representation and voting. But our ultimate trust cannot rest solely in courts, maps, or political systems. As Jesus reminded His followers in John 14:1, “Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.” In times when institutions change around us, Christ still calls His followers to embody faith leadership, upholding truth, dignity, courage, and faith.

God’s justice transcends election cycles and legislative chambers. Scripture teaches us that Christ is “the way, the truth, and the life” (John 14:6), meaning believers are called to advance with purpose, not panic. Tennessee may redraw district lines, but no government can alter the promises of God. Therefore, dream forward anyway. Lead anyway. Organize anyway. Pray anyway. Build strong families, informed communities, and courageous leaders rooted in a justice culture. Even when systems fall short, God still inspires His people to pursue righteousness, defend fairness, and walk faithfully into the future, fortified by Biblical insight.
